Despite downpour, flyover bridge work on GB Road completed

THANE: Work on the much-awaited flyover bridge near Tatvagyan Vidyapeeth was completed by a team of technicians and engineers on Sunday, who put the iron frame across the six-lane road to facilitate pedestrians to cross over without affecting the heavy traffic.
The foot overbridge (FOB) was long overdue on this junction as locals residing in the complexes on either side of the Ghodbunder Road would walk across the street and at times posed a potential risk for speeding motorists and bikers. The authorities had shut the stretch between Kapurbawdi and Manpada junctions from midnight of Saturday till Sunday morning and in spite of the heavy rains and winds, the technical team fixed the iron frame in the stipulated time.
The work on laying the walking track on the FOB would be carried out soon after which it would be thrown open to pedestrians.Locals said the FOB would not only reduce the risk of road accidents, but will also help in a seamless ride for motorists.
“The Tatvagyan junction and the area near the newly-constructed Doshi Imperia witness heavy footfall as people prefer to alight here along the highway instead of taking a long detour and many often run across the roads. There have been many incidents of crash and hit-and-run cases here. However, the FOB near R Mall is turning into a selfie point of sorts as regulars stand up and capture the moving traffic on their cameras,” said a Thane
